The ups and downs of elevator maintenance
Elevators are often taken for granted, but need frequent maintenance in order to function properly.

A well-maintained elevator can generally last for about 25 years, but some parts, periodically, may need to be replaced.
Even if the lift is well maintained, some equipment may need to be repaired or replaced.
What is considered an elevator repair and upgrade
The modification to an existing system is referred to as an upgrade and can be complete or partial. If new drivers are added to an existing elevator or if a new elevator is installed, the project is considered new construction.
It is always better to be prudent with elevator maintenance than procrastinating because this will only cause you problems. Elevators must be inspected annually by certified professionals.
According to the current legislation (Government Gazette 2604 / BD / 22.12.2008) all elevators must be in accordance with the new measures. Read more about elevator repair and upgrade here.
In which cases is the elevator completely replaced?
A complete replacement of the elevator may be required in some cases such as:
- if spare parts are no longer available
- if the equipment has far exceeded its life expectancy
- if the repairs required to comply with the lift make it more cost-effective than replacing it.
How to remove the old elevator
The way of stopping, dismantling and removing the old equipment varies depending on the size and size of the building in which the elevator is installed.
In most cases, the lift is secured to prevent an accident. The controller, motor and door fittings are then disassembled and removed. In some cases, it is necessary to remove the walls or ceilings of the cabin in order to gain access to the old equipment.
When a new elevator is installed, the controller follows. He is wired and puts the elevator in a temporary driving position so that workers can move it manually to the shaft. The elevator is then fully connected to the new controller for automatic use. The lift must be tested by the inspector and the competent authorities under full load conditions. Once the lift has received a certificate of completeness, it is ready for passenger use.
Cost of upgrading or replacing the elevator
The cost of upgrading or replacing an elevator can vary. It depends on many factors, including the size of the building, its location, the equipment and the selected cabin finishes.
By replacing an elevator, you have the opportunity to install a modern elevator in your building, adapted to your tastes. Modern elevators are highly adaptable. Read here the ways in which you can customize your elevator.
If elevator maintenance is required, building managers are required to inform residents in advance and keep them informed of the progress of the project.
