Why do we look at the roof or the floor in the elevator?

All of us when we enter an elevator and it is very crowded we definitely look at either the ceiling or the floor or the button…

Why do we look at the roof or the floor in the elevator?

Even when two strangers are found, they stand as far away from each other as possible. Have you ever wondered why this happens?

Researchers ... argue that it is an automatic instinctive response to a threat and we act as if we have to defend ourselves against something, protecting ourselves. It is a reaction that has been programmed into our DNA and our minds after thousands of years of evolution and survival. It is really a way to protect ourselves from others so that unpredictable reactions do not occur.

This may be due to the fact that history has shown that the coexistence of people in a confined space has almost always had a violent end.

In experiments conducted in the laboratory of Dario Maestripieri at the University of Chicago, he found that rhesus monkeys respond in the same way. When two monkeys are placed in the same small cage, they do the same as humans in the elevator. They try to avoid confrontation.

They do not look into each other's eyes and if their gaze is met, they show their teeth, which corresponds to our smile.
